Silk from The Berwick Street Cloth Shop

The English Gown seems much more English when you buy the fabric in England. When visiting London last summer I ventured to the SoHo district with the goal of purchasing fabric for a new English gown. Of the stores I visited, my favorite was The Berwick Street Cloth Shop

I purchased several meters of stripes for two gowns but found the real deal in their remnant bin – two one-meter remnants of 100% silk for 10£ each (normally 69£ per meter). Now if I could only decide what 18th century project would best suit this silk…an embroidered apron? A muff? Lining a cloak’s hood?
